Celebration of Real Beauty Photo Shoot by Amy Walker

Poor self image is not a new problem. We have been hearing about it for years. We talk about the effects of the media on young girls. We talk about the weight of the models in the fashion industry. We do a lot of talking! And yet I still see so many women, both adults and teens that do not feel good in their own skin. Dove soap did an awesome marketing campaign trying to promote real beauty. But when they followed up their campaigns with market research, they did not find positive results. They found that women prefer looking at skinny, beautiful, perfect models. Even though the models made women feel worse about themselves, they felt better about the products.

Fit for Life

Fit for Life is a “lifestyle” that takes a unique approach towards healthy eating. Written by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond it was released in 1985. The premise of Fit for Life is that digesting food requires a lot of energy and if you make it “easy” for your digestive system to get the job done quickly and efficiently, it will have more time and energy to work on burning excess fat. The recommendations in the book are slightly unusual and although wildly popular on the talk show circuit back in the 80’s caused quite a stir among dieticans and health care professionals. But in the past 20 years many of the Fit for Life’s recommendations are being backed up by science and are in vogue.

Ropes Course

A Ropes Course is typically an all-day activity that teaches skills through experiences. The basic goal of the course is to increase the participant’s level of self-confidence as they explore risk, leadership, communication, problem solving & coaching. As a person deals with the success, failures, & disappointments…..self-esteem and personal growth begin to develop.

The second primary goal is to help the participants learn to function meaningfully and productively as a team. Speed and individual excellence is not the goal.

Raw Food – A new adventure!

I experimented with something quite fun today – I hired a raw foodist (is that a word? a raw foodie? a raw nutritionist?) to spend the afternoon with me cooking up (uhh, it’s just a “term”) all sorts of interesting concoctions. Linda Gregersen, a new friend that I met at Biz Divas several months ago is an EXPERT at making this on-the-edge lifestyle seem really easy. In a matter of 2 hours we came up with all sorts of yummy things.Linda understands that this is something most people have to “ease into”. Going from a typical western diet to completely RAW without some sort of transition would be a little insane if you ask me.
