The Bucket List
The first obvious requirement to having what you want in life is knowing what you want. Most people can give you a detailed list of what they DON”T want (at least verbally); but how many people actually articulate in writing the things they desire to accomplish during their lifetime?
We set goals for clarity, purpose, and fulfillment. We use our goals as a means of clarifying what we want to achieve and as a compass for focused purposeful living.
Goal setting is a trait of a successful achiever. The simple act of committing to paper what you want to do, be and have serves as an attraction magnet to invite great things into your life. Research has shown that people who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them than those who merely “keep it in mind”. Why? One reason is that they are forced to define and clarify what it is that they want before they can write it down. While it can’t be proven that every person who has ever set a clear intention got what they were after, it can be shown that no success has been brought about by uncertain intentions.
I have a LifeVision notebook where I keep a list of things that I want to accomplish before I “kick the bucket”…..ahh, maybe we should call it a “Bucket List”(oops….already taken
) When I re do my LifeVision every 4-6 months, I look over the list and see if I’m ready to add anything from this Master/Bucket List. Then I take the item and turn it into much more detail (action plan, motivation, details!!)
An Example from my current bucket list or 100 Life time goals:
Travel:
- Cruise down the Nile
- 3 months in Africa
- New Zealand/Australia (going in November!!)
- Backpack through Europe
- Sail for a month
Educational/Talents
- Obtain a Bachelors from either BYU or GWC
- Learn 25 songs on my harp
- Sell a photo
- Arrange an 8 track song with Garage band/piano/ etc
- Take a painting class
Physical
- Climb Kilaminjero
- Learn to Rock Climb
- Do whole Lotoja
- Learn Yoga
- Run 1/2 marathon
Professional
- Serve on board of Humanitarian organization
- Publish article for a magazine
- Write another book
- Have a well-read professional blog
- Speak professionally
Now get to it! Grab a notebook and make it your goal notebook. Start with 10 or 20, then keep adding to it! And don’t ever tear the pages out! It’s fun to go back and see the things we have accomplished.
- Own my own business
- Write a book on the LifeVision
- Enter bike races
- Travel to Africa
- Travel to China
- Learn to play the harp
- Buy new professional camera
- Etc Etc

Iʼm working on my own ʻbucket list,ʼ because I really want to make the most of my time while Iʼm alive. This article really helped me weed out the items on the list and gave me perspective as to what I really want.
Ok Ann. Iʼm going to go buy my notebook today and get started!
I think that creating a “bucket list” (or a list of 100 things to do before you die) is a great way to expand your sense of who you are and what youʼre capable of. Even if your day-to-day life is routine and completely unglamorous, doing something outrageous once a year–such as jumping out of a plane or visiting an exotic destination–can bring back the sense of life as a daring adventure.
