African Jewelry Sale to Help Starving Women
So this isn’t my typical post, but I did want to get the word out that I am “on a mission” to help a very dear friend in Kenya. Several years ago, I went on a humanitarian trip to Africa to help some beautiful sisters start a sewing business. Although I barely knew how to sew, I did know how to run a business. At first these women were disappointed that I hadn’t brought the latest fashion designs with me from America that they could imitate and create to sell in the streets of Nairobi. But that was never my intent….I sat these beautiful women down and began with belief in themselves. I shared with them my own journey of goal setting and creating a powerful vision that included being the kind of person you need to be, doing what needs to be done in order to have the things I desired. (Be-Do-Have). And then I helped them set up a school uniform business that included sewing and marketing to schools.
One woman, Christine, really seemed to grasp what I was talking about and went beyond the sewing business we created to add another entreprenurial interest. On her own initiative, she contacted me (through much effort at a cyber cafe) to see if I would be interested in selling Kazuri jewlery to my friends in the US. Having already bought Kazuri beads, I was very interested. (They retail for $70 a strand in the USA – Meryl Streep supports the company with her many purchases!). I proposed that she buy them directly from the factory, send them to me and I would mark them up $10 for profit to her. The plan worked as Christine learned much about business: She had to get courage to hire a taxi to take to her an hour away to another city to purchase the jewelry, she had to get a bank account so I could transfer her the money etc.
And now Christine has a source of income that keeps her and several adopted children alive. Please consider purchasing some jewelry to help Christine again. She is an angel who passes the money she receives on to other women in need.
I have enclosed an email that I received from her thanking me for our first jewelry adventure:

We all have opportunities in our lives to give and to serve others. Christine is one that I have taken under my wing. She has a thirst for knowledge and improving her life. She also has a heart to help others as you read from the email above.
If you have it in your own heart to purchase a piece of jewelry, please know that 100% of the money goes to Christine. You literally will be putting food in the mouths of many.
